Northern Cape police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving following a car crash that left former Constitutional Court, Justice Yvonne Mokgoro in a critical condition.

Mokgoro has been in Intensive Care Unit at Lenmed Hospital in Kimberley after the car and truck crash on April 3.

Members of the public who might have information about the crash are requested to assist the police with investigations. Mokgoro’s family says they are hopeful that she will make a full recovery.

Provincial police spokesperson, Sergio Kock says, “The Windsorton SAPS are investigating a reckless and negligent driving after a truck and Mercedes Benz crashed approximately 12 kilometres outside Windsorton on the N12. The accident occurred on the 3rd of April 2023 at about 20:00 when the truck and Mercedes collided while travelling in the same director from Kimberley enroute to Warrenton. The male driver of the Mercedes and his female passenger both received medical treatment while the truck driver and passenger escaped unscathed.”

Meanwhile, the family of former Constitutional Court Justice, Yvonne Mokgoro says they are worried about her making a full recovery following her car crash three weeks ago. Mokgoro remains in a critical condition at Lenmed Hospital in Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

Her son, Ithateng Mokgoro says her current state of health is taking its toll on the family.

“The accident happened near Kimberley. We’ve been moving between Johannesburg and Kimberley, taking care of her but also dealing with side shows that come with this sort of things. So it’s been tough, it’s been really, really tough. With these sort of things were progress is painstakingly slow it can be heavy. We go there everyday we visit three times a day, every visiting hour. It takes days for any progress to happen. Today, the Dr called us and said she moved her left hand. Small wins like that really make a huge difference.”
