Former Chief Financial Officer at Collins Chabane Municipality in the Vhembe District in Limpopo , Charlotte Ngobeni is expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court, east of Johannesburg on Friday morning.
The former CFO was arrested on Thursday, for his alleged involvement in unlawfully and irregularly investing municipal money with VBS Mutual Bank.
It is alleged that in October 2017, the municipality invested R120 million with VBS, in violation of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
Ngobeni was arrested on the same matter by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Task Team members in March last year and has since been released on R50 000 bail.
Hawks Spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo says more arrests are expected.
“The suspect is expected to make his first appearance in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court for contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act. The Hawks Investigations with regard to VBS cases are at an advanced stage and a total of 27 suspects have been arrested so far. More arrests are imminent.”
