Eight former heads of state including Thabo Mbeki will be panellists at the inaugural Fundi Education Forum in Johannesburg this Tuesday.
Education Credit Provider Fundi says the panel discussion with Unisa and the African Presidential Leadership Centre will put education centre stage to enable economic growth.
The forum will create a platform for business and academia to engage and get invaluable insights from the former leaders.
Thabo Mbeki, Goodluck Jonathan and Rupiya Banda are among former presidents and prime ministers expected to discuss how quality education is a powerful enabler for economic growth, in a continent that has six of the world’s fastest growing economies.
According to the World Bank, 11 million youth are expected to enter Africa’s labour market every year for the next decade, and with the majority of Africans working in the informal sector.
This provides a compelling argument to put education centre stage.
Fundi says this requires changes in policy, and the past African Presidents of South Africa, Nigeria, Zambia, Tanzania and Ghana are expected to share their insights.
