Chibuike Innocent Nwosu was arrested in Milnerton last week.

A 39-year-old man, arrested on charges of human trafficking, has appeared briefly in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.

Chibuike Innocent Nwosu was arrested in Milnerton last week. The Hawks says two women aged 22 were freed and taken to a place of safety.

They were allegedly lured from Mpumalanga and the Free State with promises of work and then forced to work as sex workers.

The case has been postponed until 12 March for a formal bail application.

Nwosu’s lawyer, Advocate Batyha Monyemoratho says the state has to verify her client’s status in the country as he is a foreigner.

“The State alleges that he is a flight risk so according to the requirements of a bail application if you are a flight risk they will not release you. So now they postpone it for a formal bail application where I’m going to support evidence to show that my client is not a flight risk. He needs to be released on bail and then the investigation will take place while he is out of custody,” says Monyemoratho.

Seven months ago a 24 year- old woman was also human trafficked after she got promised a modelling job in Malaysia.
