Forbes releases list of 2018 richest billionaires

More than 2200 people made the Forbes 32nd annual ranking of the world’s richest billionaires, with a combined wealth of 9.1 trillion dollars.

Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos is the richest person on the planet with an estimated worth of 112 billion dollars followed by Microsoft’s Bill Gates at 90 billion dollars with 87-year-old investor Warren Buffet estimated to be worth 84 billion dollars in third place.

Africa’s richest billionaire Aliko Nangote of Nigeria worth 14.1 billion dollars came in at 100 while five South Africans also made the list.

Bezos, who tops the list saw his net worth improve from 39.2 billion a year ago, to the record 112 billion, the biggest 12-month improvement on record.

Gates, who’s second on the list, comparatively saw his net worth increase from 84 billion in 2017 to 90 billion dollars in 2018.

Of the top 20, 13 are Americans, 2 Chinese, 2 French, and 1 each from Mexico, Spain and India with just that group worth a staggering 1.2 trillion dollars.

Forbes says its numbers are a snapshot of wealth using stock prices and exchange rates cautioning that some people might get richer or poorer within a matter of weeks.

In Africa, commodity businessman Aliko Dangote is the richest worth 14.1 billion dollars, 1 of three Nigerian billionaires.

Egypt has the most African dollar billionaires at 6.

South Africa has five with Nicky Oppenheimer worth 7.7 billion followed by Johann Rupert second at 7 billion dollars.

Mining boss Patrice Motsepe is South Africa’s 4th richest with an estimated worth of 2.4 billion dollars, coming in at a lowly 1020 on this year’s Forbes List.

President Donald Trump dropped 222 places on 2018’s list with a net worth of 3.1 billion dollars.
