Five people have died and two are seriously injured following a head-on collision between two vehicles early on Tuesday morning on the N1 outside Laingsburg in the Karoo in the Western Cape.
Another occupant is still trapped in one of the vehicles.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa says the highway is still closed near the Prins Albert Road turnoff on the N1.
Emergency workers are clearing the scene.
The cause of the collision is unknown at this stage.
