Five killed in KwaZulu-Natal robbery

Five people have been shot dead outside a supermarket in Dlangezwa Township near the University of Zululand on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

Unknown suspects opened fire on customers o nFriday night.

One person was shot dead while enjoying a drink inside his car. Two security guards were not spared.

The attackers took an undisclosed sum of cash from the supermarket. Somali nationals who are the owners of the supermarket were not hurt.

No one has been arrested.

Bheki Mbokazi  who is the brother of one of the victims says they are saddened by the attack.

“We are saddened. We are very much because most of the things in our family were almost done by him and I am the youngest.  Even if I am looking for any kind of advice I get from him, but now I am left alone and I don’t know what to do.”

Umhlathuze Local Mayor Mduduzi Mhlongo has reacted with shock to the incident.

“We are extremely shocked as the community about the level of brutality this crime was committed. We are working together with police trying to assist so that anyone with information can help us to get these criminals. They level at which it was brazenly carried out and the shoot out and killing of five people and three others rushed to hospital. It is something that has never happened here.”
