Five killed in Free State crash

Five people have died in a crash involving two vehicles on the R57 between Heilbron and Sasolburg in the Free State.

Free State emergency Services Spokesperson Sipho Towa says medical personnel are on the scene trying to extract the bodies from the wreckage. Towa says traffic flow has not been disrupted.

“On arrival, they found light motor vehicle collided head on with a heavy motor vehicle. There are five fatalities that are reported on the scene. Traffic is moving past the scene, all services are on scene, they will be executing extracting of trapped bodies.”

Eastern Cape crash

Two people died and five others sustained injuries when a bakkie and a minibus taxi collided head-on, on the N10 road in Peterson towards Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape on Thursday afternoon.

Both vehicles were travelling from opposite directions.

Two occupants from the minibus taxi were declared dead on the scene.

It is alleged that reckless and negligent driving were the main contributing factors to this accident.

Provincial Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose said the injured were taken to Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
