Five killed after armed men opened fire at Mpumalanga township west of Durban

Five people have been killed after four armed men walked in and opened fire in a bar at Mpumalanga township in the west of the Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson – Thembeka Mbhele – says the attackers were looking for two men.

Mbhele says the two tried to flee when the four gunmen entered. Mbhele says both of them were shot dead, but that six other patrons were also hit by bullets.

“The deceased are aged between 17 and 35. And the police were informed that four victims were rushed to medical attention and that one succumbed to his injuries. Its alleged that four armed men walked into the bar, looking for the two males, who noticed the suspects and ran away. The suspects opened fire, fatally wounding the two men and six other victims were hit by stray bullets. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Mpumalanga police station for further investigation. And the dockets were transferred to provincial organised crime unit,” explains Mbhele.
