Five cash in transit heist suspects arrested

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Five suspects have now been arrested after two cash vans were attacked in Boksburg east of Johannesburg Thursday morning.

Gauteng police commissioner Deliwe De Lange says even though cash in transit heists are on the increase, police are making some inroads. Police say a group of more than ten suspects bombed the cash vans before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police gave chase which ended up at George Goch hostel south of Johannesburg. Some of the stolen money has been recovered. Three firearms and a getaway car have been seized. De Lange says police are turning the corner in their war on cash in transit heists.

“Today again about four suspects that were involved in cash in transit, they are appearing in different courts. One in Kempton Park, one in Pretoria and one in Tembisa and they are linked to a spate of CITs. So what I’m saying to the community is that Yes! Even though this crime is increasing we are making inroads into this crime.”
