Fitting farewell for Lara Kruger

Reading Time: 2 minutes

SABC‘s Motsweding FM DJ, Thapelo Lehulere, popularly known as Lara Kruger has been laid to rest at her home town of Mogwase near Rustenburg in the North West on Saturday.

Mourners came in their numbers to pay tribute to a socially conscious entertainer. The funeral had an all-white theme, as per her wishes.

Many of those who paid their last respects, remembered Lara, as a creative entertainer who openly used her radio platform to educate society about the rights of the LGBTI community.

“I’ve known Lara for 26 years. She’s an all-round amazing person; very creative, always been true to herself, a great entertainer and amazing friend. We are really going to miss her,” says friend Wincome Madisha.

Another friend, Chriselda Dudumashe described Lehulere as “an amazing person.”

“I really think the one thing we must take from her is that depression is real and we must learn to lean on Bible scriptures like she did.”

SABC Provincial General Manager Dan Mongale says Lehulere will be missed by her listeners.

“She was very open to her listeners. She had a whole creativity of entertaining listeners, and that’s why we will remember her,” says Mongale.

Lehulere died last Wednesday at the Moses Kotane hospital following a short illness. She is survived by her mother and two sisters.
