Mpumalanga MEC for Cooperative Governance Refilwe Mtshweni has been elected and sworn in as Premier of Mpumalanga.

Mtshweni will become the first female premier of Mpumalanga taking over the reigns from the country’s Deputy President, David Mabuza, who served in the position for eight years.

Mtshweni’s election was presided by President of Mpumalanga Division of the High Court, Justice Francis Legodi.

In her acceptance speech, Mtshweni reassured the public that their needs will be prioritised.

“I will continue to prioritise all the issues we had committed ourselves to, as per the social contract we entered into with the people of Mpumalanga during the 2014 general elections. The government remains committed with providing quality service to the people and ensuring that the lives of the people of Mpumalanga change for the better,” says Mtshweni.
