Firefighters struggling to contain Jonkershoek inferno

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The fire in the valley below Jonkershoek at Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands District is proving challenging.

Municipal spokesperson, Jo-Anne Otto, says the firefighting teams have reported repeated flare-ups that are difficult to bring under control due to the hot weather.

She says they focused their attention on managing the fire during the relative cool of the night.

Otto says two of the firefighters have been hurt.

“The two ground team members that were injured during the night have sustained serious and will be transferred to specialist facilities for further care.

Our prayer accompanies them. There has been no loss of life, livelihood, or infrastructure,” she adds.
