Firefighters are still on the scene of three active mountain fires at nine hotspots in the Southern Cape, believed to be caused by lightning strikes.  Eden Disaster Management’s Chief Gerhard Otto says their priority areas  are Molen River, Kubuku and De Vlugt in the Langkloof. Otto says currently there is no danger to property.

“The teams, there is about 200 people deployed to monitor fires and we are also still at the Eden JOC coordinating all activities.  At this point there is no direct immediate danger to property.  The lines are still high up in the mountains.  When the fires do come down towards houses, teams have managed to keep the fire at safe distance from the houses.”
