Fire erupts in Joburg CBD building, no reported fatalities

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services swiftly responded to a fire in a building situated at the intersection of Kerk and Goud streets in the CBD.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, and as of now, there are no reported fatalities, while the exact number of injuries remains unconfirmed.

The spokesperson for Emergency Management Services Nana Radebe-Kgiba, provided details on the situation. According to Radebe-Kgiba, “On arrival, the firefighter team found a building with shacks inside fully engulfed with flames. Plus, 20 shacks have been affected, and one person was taken to the hospital.”

She added, “Disaster management is currently on the scene to assist the affected families and have a clear number of how many families are affected. For now, we are doing preliminary investigations on what caused the fire.”
