Festive season road fatalities drop by 10 %

The number of road fatalities and injuries over the past festive season has dropped by 10% compared to the previous year. Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says 1 617 fatalities have been recorded on the country’s roads from 1 December 2019 to 15 January 2020.

The highest number of road fatalities happened in KwaZulu-Natal with 354 people, followed by Gauteng with 254 fatalities. Mbalula has thanked law enforcement officers for their hard work to bring down the number of road deaths.

He was addressing the media in Pretoria.
