Fourteen female professional boxers will exchange blows in a historic women’s boxing tournament to celebrate heritage month in Polokwane, in Limpopo on Friday.

TLB boxing promotion will present seven bouts, including a national title fight. Promoter Joyce Kungwane says due to COVID-19 regulations, spectators will not be allowed.

Kungwane says she has decided to present female bouts only as female boxers are not getting enough exposure.

“Due to the restrictions that we are still under people will be able to watch the tournament from TV SABC sports channel. So I feel that our girls need that attention. It is high time that people know that we have got female boxers who are good because that is something that they have not been getting.”

In the main-bout scheduled for 12 rounds, Kholosa Ndobayini will make her fourth defence for the South African welter weight title. She will fight Bonita van Jaarsvedlt. Ndobayini says she is ready for the fight.

“I’m ready 100%. I’m ready for this fight. I prepared everything. I’m defending for the fourth time now I’m ready for everything. I promise the good game I will win this fight raining or not.”
