Three children who were allegedly raped by their father have been placed under police protection at their home in Polokwane, Limpopo. This comes after the mother of the girls aged seven, ten and 13 laid charges of rape against her estranged husband. It is alleged that the offences happened between 2009 and 2018.

Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says officers have launched a hunt for the man.

“We are still following all the tracks of this man because he is still on the run… that is why we are still saying to all members of the community who know him to please contact the nearest police station, we have got a victim empowerment section in our system, that is where now the mother and all the victims are being taken through to make sure that at the time when this case is ready to be heard everything is in order.”

Clinical psychologist Dr Kenneth Netshiombo suggests one of the signs of abuse is that abusers display excessive affection towards their victims, especially when they are biologically related.

“Usually such people are highly manipulative – they would want the daughters to see him as a better parent than the mother, the warning signs are excessive expression of love to the daughters… if it is only the daughters that are taken out for shopping, who are given this or that as they demand… those are early warning signs that something seriously wrong in the make up here.”
