Fourteen people have been killed in a crash involving a minibus on the R33 near Greytown on the KwaZulu-Natal midlands Thursday night.

It is believed that the vehicle that was transporting passengers from the town, experienced brake failure, lost control and overturned.

Three other passengers were seriously injured.

KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says , “Our team had to work throughout the night to make sure that they rescue the survivors but also to recover the bodies of those who passed away. The MEC for transport community safety and liaison In KwaZulu-Natal Mxolisi Kaunda has described the latest accident as a serious blow to the province especially as we are working so hard to ensure that we sustain a down ward trend when it comes to road crashes and fatalities. The MEC would like to also call on all road users in the province to drive cautiously and abide by the rule of law.”
