Farmer goes to court over land invasion

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A Stellenbosch farmer has approached the High Court in Cape Town to have illegal land invaders removed from his farm Watergang.

Hundreds of occupants invaded the land a few weeks ago.

The matter has been postponed until the sixth of next month.

The court ruled that the matter be postponed to give lawyers for the illegal occupants time to consult with their clients.

Despite at least three eviction orders being granted to stop the occupants from constructing more shacks and occupying the units, the matter is yet to be resolved.

The illegal occupants were residing in Kayamandi in Stellenbosch and over recent months have moved over to the farm where they demand to set up permanent residence.

At least 900 structures have been constructed on the privately owned farm in Stellenbosch.
