F4SD accuses the ANC of buying votes in the North West

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Forum for Service Delivery (F4SD) in the North West has accused the ANC of buying votes in the Ratlou Local Municipality. The party alleges that the ANC paid loan sharks to return IDs in their possession to their owners, in exchange for their votes.

The Forum for Service Delivery alleges that 164 people whose Identity Documents were with loan sharks had them returned.

F4SD President Mbahare Kekana explains what happened.

“So what happened there is that the ANC managed to pay those loan sharks and contain the IDs and you have to guarantee them that you’ll vote for them before they gave you that ID.”

Meanwhile, the ANC has strongly refuted the claims.

Co-ordinator for the ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee, Hlomani Chauke says they merely alerted loan sharks that it is illegal to take possession of a person’s identity document.

“No. No. The ANC has not done that. What we know is that it’s illegal for anyone to be holding someone’s ID book. We know that most of these – what you call them – loan sharks, whatever you call them – have been in possession of a lot of IDs. But we have been engaging with them, not at buying those ID books but to make them aware.”
