F State ANC elective conference declared unlawful

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Constitutional Court has declared the Free State ANC Provincial Elective Conference unlawful. A group of disgruntled ANC members complained of irregularities such as bogus members and parallel ANC branches ahead of the June Provincial Elective Conference. However, the outcome of the election was upheld by the national structures of the ANC. The case was brought to the Constitutional Court after a group calling itself Forces of Change failed in a bid to have the June elective conference nullified by the Bloemfontein High Court. Judge Mojalefa Rampai refused to hear the merits of the case finding saying that they had failed to comply on several technical requirements. But the Constitutional Court has now set aside Judge Rampai’s decision . In the majority judgment read by justice Dikgang Moseneke they found that all the decisions taken at the Parys conference are unlawful and invalid . It is at this stage still unclear whether Free State will be represented in Mangaung.
