Extreme weather conditions bring discomfort to SA

Senior forecaster at the South African Weather Service Puseletso Mofokeng says the extreme cold conditions will remain until Friday.

Speaking on Morning Live, he says the cold weather will move towards Botswana on Friday but by Sunday the winter chills are expected back in South Africa.

The extreme weather conditions experienced in some parts of the country have brought discomfort to thousands of people living in low-lying areas, especially those in informal settlements.

The SA Weather Services has warned that minimum temperatures are expected to drop significantly over the central, western and southern interior of the country from Tuesday.

Minimum temperatures in the order of -4°C to -8°C are possible over the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, southern and eastern Northern Cape and parts of the Free State.

Mofokeng says apart from the rain experienced in the Western Cape, the is no chance of rain forecast for most of the country for the rest of the week.
