The youth has been urged to adhere to the health protocols to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Director of the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Research Innovation Platform, Professor Tulio De Oliviera, confirmed last week that a new variant of the coronavirus had been identified in South Africa and it was spreading rapidly.

According to Prof De Oliviera, the new lineage of the coronavirus is dominating new infections in South Africa.

But what is this new COVID-19 variant?
