Excitement in London ahead of Olympic opening

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sporting fever has hit Britain hard, even Britain’s Prince William is showing off his soccer skills or should we say lack thereof during a soccer practice match with students in southeast London. “Watching me on the football field is never a pretty sight. The expression ‘giraffe on ice’ springs to mind. However, it’s marginally less embarrassing to see my brother cheat his way to becoming the fastest man on the planet,” says Prince William. The royals were at an event to promote sports coaching for young people. Britain’s Cultural minister Jeremy Hunt proudly stated at a pre-Olympic bell-ringing ceremony that as hosts they have everything under control and that the games will be without a hitch.
Hunt says: “… London is more ready than any other Olympic host city that has ever been. When there are things that don’t go according to plan London will cope in the way that is always has…” Hunt could not have spoken too soon; He was left red-faced when his bell broke. The chime flew through the air and struck a publicist in the leg.

I think it is a great opportunity to show the world the best of Britain.

Just hours ahead of the opening ceremony Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron has also told the world to be ready for the “best show on earth” “I think it is a great opportunity to show the world the best of Britain, a country that has got an incredibly rich past but actually a very exciting and vibrant future. Someone asked me yesterday, ‘what face of Britain do you want to put forward, is it blur or the beefeaters? And frankly it is both,” adds Cameron. Meanwhile, the first world record of the London Olympics was broken today. South Korea’s Im Dong-hyun broke his own 72-arrow world record in the archery ranking round for the London Olympics. Im who is blind in one eye also broke the team world record for 72 arrows with a score of 2,087 at Lord’s Cricket Ground. The Olympic torch is currently on its way to the Olympic Stadium in east London for the opening ceremony where it will set alight the cauldron to signal the official start of the Games.
