EThekwini ANC dismisses claims of Zuma’s nomination as chairperson

The African National Congress in the eThekwini region has dismissed reports that it’s planning to nominate former president Jacob Zuma as chairperson of the party in KwaZulu-Natal.

Zuma is a former ANC President and is therefore an ex-officio member of the party’s National Executive Committee.

EThekwini regional secretary Bheki Ntuli says the only recommendation from branches in the region is that Zuma should work closely with the provincial leadership that will be elected sometime in April to foster unity among party members.

“Most of the branches and other regions they agree that we still need former President Jacob Zuma to be available to the movement, just to assist the movement where we’ve got problems of infighting.”

“President Zuma has a critical role to play in ensuring that we achieve unity that we are planning to have here in KwaZulu-Natal. But however comrades are very strong that while they are working, comrade Nxamalala must be closer to them and work together with the PEC that we are going to elect.”

“But he must not be elected as chairperson or to any other position. The information that is circulating all over the media that we want to elect Jacob Zuma as chairperson of KZN are not true.”
