Would-be Estina farm beneficiaries seek justice

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Some of the 89 would-be beneficiaries of the now infamous Estina Dairy Farm project in Vrede want tough action taken against those found guilty of wrongdoing.

This follows raids on the offices of Free State premier, Ace Magashule and the provincial Agriculture department on Friday.

A week ago, the Asset Forfeiture Unit placed the farm under curatorship, amid reports that the Gupta family and their friends used the project to siphon massive amounts of money from government.

The Hawks on Saturday took statements from several of people who were meant to benefit from the establishment of the project.

Their investigation is looking into allegations that the multi-million rand project was used by companies linked to the controversial Gupta family as a front to steal from government coffers.

The would-be beneficiaries of the Estina Dairy Farm say though their names were used to acquire the farm, but they never saw a cent of the money meant to finance the Estina project.

The Gupta family and a number of politicians, including Mineral Resources minister Mosebenzi Zwane, have been linked to the Estina Dairy Farm scandal. Zwane was the Free State Agriculture MEC when the farm was identified.

The Hawks  say they have a watertight case.

The Asset Forfeiture Unit raided the Estina Dairy Farm on Tuesday, following an order by the Bloemfontein High Court. So far, 15 bank accounts of those implicated, have been frozen.
