Eskom has welcomed the decision by the Competition Commission to refer for prosecution four companies accused of price fixing and tender collusion in an Eskom tender.

Eskom says the contract with SGB Cape, one of the companies involved, is one of hundreds of contracts currently under review at the power utility.

The tender was for the supply, installation and dismantling of scaffolding and thermal insulation for all of the 15 Eskom coal-fired power stations.

“You have a company winning, and then at some point withdrew, with one person signing for all of them and essentially using the same information… internally we will be investigating that matter. Eskom has already indicated that there are 160 cases that we are looking into of contracts of more than one billion rand, so this one will be one of those that we are reviewing,” added Eskom spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe.
