Eskom has warned that it could implement rolling blackouts again.

This after five generating units failed at the power utility’s different power stations.

Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says although they are not implementing rolling blackouts at this stage, such a possibility cannot be ruled out.

“Eskom would like to request the public’s assistance in reducing the usage of electricity as the power system is severely constrained. Five generation units at various power stations have failed.”

“Should there be any further loss of generation capacity, rolling blackouts would be required to be implemented at very short notice,” adds Mantshantsha.

Last week, Eskom suspended stage two blackouts.

The country was plunged into darkness when stage four was announced earlier last week.
