Ageing infrastructure may cause Johannesburg residents to still experience rolling blackouts. This week Eskom announced that cold temperatures may also put the power grid under pressure as the electricity demand is likely to increase.

South Africans have experienced load shedding which has been implemented nationwide.

Eskom’s Khulu Phasiwe says they have put measures in place to avoid load shedding in the next few weeks especially on days when temperatures plummet but load shedding remains a risk if the power utility experiences unforeseen technical issues.

“ The system is currently stable but we are on standby in parts of the Eastern Cape and parts of the eastern Free State and also Western Cape where there has been reports of some heavy snow falls but our technicians are on standby to go and address the situations as they arise. ”
