Eskom implements Stage 2 load shedding from midday

Eskom has announced that it will implement Stage 2 rotational load shedding from midday Thursday until Sunday evening.

This is due to the loss of generation capacity overnight.

The power utility’s spokesperson Sikhonathi Mantshantsha says two generation units at the Kusile Power Station tripped due to the failure of the main coal feed conveyor belts supplying coal to the units.

He says a unit each at the Kriel and Duvha has also tripped.

“The system therefore remains vulnerable and unpredictable. Should any break down occur the stage of load shedding may change at short notice,” explains Mantshantsha.
