Eskom approaches High Court to review NERSA’s decision on price increase application

Eskom has turned to the High Court in Johannesburg to review the National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s (NERSA) decision to reject its price increase application.

Eskom submitted its revenue application to NERSA on 2 June.

On September 30th, NERSA rejected the Eskom Multi-Year Price Determination 5 (MYPD 5) application revenue application.

The urgent High Court review requires NERSA to urgently process the Eskom revenue application for at least one year.

“This price increase is effective from April 2022. It is necessary due to the negative impact on Eskom, municipal and Treasury finances. It is planned for decisions to be made timelessly and it is hoped that Nersa will allow for stability in the electricity industry and overall in the country’s finances,” says Hasha Tlhotlhalemaje, GM of Regulation at Eskom.
