Eric Tinkler reacts to Wednesday’s match

SuperSport United coach, Eric Tinkler, feels they deserved more than a point from their match against Bloemfontein Celtic that ended in a one-all draw.

United produced an improved performance in the second half of the match at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday and came from a goal down to equalise late in the match.

United were looking for a first win in four league outings, a result that would have moved them from the bottom half of the table. They piled pressure on the home side from the word go with Patrick Tingyeb doing well to stop the danger.

They never seemed to tire, launching attack after attack with Celtic’s defence resolute. Instead it was the home side that opened the scoring. Victor Letsoalo had the easiest of goals, beating keeper Riyaad Pieterse, after receiving a through ball from Ndumiso Mabena.

United had a chance to equalise moments later with Thuso Phala one-on-one with keeper, Tingyeb, but failing to score. Their efforts were rewarded late in the match when Darren Smith’s header beat Tingyeb.

“We made changes just to try and make us more offensive the young boy Darren came in and scored but I really thought second half we dominated and deserved more than a point,” said Tinkler.

“We started to lose control in the midfield in the second half and it resulted in domination,” said Celtic Coach, Veselin Jesulic.

Celtic moved to sixth on the table while United remain eleventh with the league set to resume on January the fifth. Meanwhile, the 2017/2018 ABSA premiership season has had its first coaching casualty with Ajax Cape Town parting ways with Dutch coach, Stanley Menzo.

Menzo, who was previously head of youth at the club, had taken over the coaching reins in October 2016 after the club parted ways with Roger De Sa.

The Urban Warriors are second from bottom on the ABSA Premiership log having won only three of their 14 matches.
