Epidemiologist concerned about management of the COVID-19 pandemic

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Epidemiologist Jo Barnes says that she’s deeply concerned by the whole management of the coronavirus pandemic.

She was speaking following further relaxation of the COVID-19 restrictions by President Cyril Ramaphosa, which saw changes in mask-wearing and rules regarding gatherings.

Barnes says that safety and good management are owed to all people by the government and the recent changes look like they were put together in great haste.

“I’m speaking to you now, not only as an epidemiologist but as an active member of the Disaster Management Forum of my province. I’m concerned that the regulations that they say will have to be put in place before they can let go of the Disaster Management Act, as a vehicle for management came out. They produced it and asked for comments, but they are not logical, they’re contradictory in many places, and some people even call them incoherent,” says Barnes.
