It was announced that the outbreak has been traced to Enterprise Foods Polokwane facility in Limpopo.

An Enterprise Meat Processing factory in Germiston East of Johannesburg has been temporarily closed following revelations that its products are the source of the Listeriosis outbreak.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced on Sunday that the outbreak has been traced to Enterprise Foods Polokwane facility in Limpopo.

About 180 people have died from the bacteria.

Signs announcing the temporary closure of the factory are stuck on walls near the main entrance of the premises with several security personnel manning the gates.

Dozens of frustrated and angry customers have camped near the factory entrance hoping to return the products they purchased.

Factory staff members could also be seen inside the premises. It’s not clear what their future will be with the company and how the temporary closure of the factory could impact on their jobs.

This listeriosis outbreak has been described as the biggest outbreak in South Africa’s history.
