Johannesburg Emergency Services remain on high alert as a heat wave persists across the city.

The South African Weather Service says temperatures will stay in the mid to high thirties across Gauteng and persist into the weekend.

Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi is urging residents to stay hydrated and out of direct sunlight as much as possible.

“No major incidents were reported throughout the city of Johannesburg relating to the extremely hot temperatures throughout the city from Monday. We just want to continue to urge our residents to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. Avoid direct sunlight from 11am to 3pm so that we can  prevent conditions like heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and also heat stroke. From our side, we will continue to remain on high alert to respond to an emergency that might occur.”
