The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has launched the Results Operations Centre, otherwise known as the ROC, at the Pretoria showgrounds today.

The ROC is the nerve centre of capturing, auditing, collating, and announcing the results of the polls scheduled for 1 November.

The ROC, aimed at promoting the transparency of the electoral process, is supported by nine other provincial elections centres across the country.

“We have sought to prepare for this election with diligence within the constraints of time and the constraints imposed by COVID-19, yet we are reasonably confident that all measures necessary have been put in place to realise an election of the standard contemplated in the constitution. To my colleagues, I say we dare not fail. To my compatriots, the clarion call … the moment of vindicating our electoral choices for the reconstitution of municipal councils is upon us,” says IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo.

#IEC #sabcnews 1.1 m special voters registered and will take place on 30 and 31 Oct. Zip Zip machines have now been replaced by Voter Management Devices (VMDs) used for recording opening & closing voting stations, monitoring usage of ballots and capturing addresses.

LGE 2021 | Importance of IEC’s Results Operations Centre:

Mashinini says that measures are in place to protect the integrity of the results of the local government elections. He says the ROC represents the transparency with which the Commission does its work and has assured the public that there is no chance of rigging the results.

“Some of these measures they include the capturing and verification of results at each voting station by officials and party agents, as well as posting those results on the door of the voting station. By the time they appear here, they are already known on the ground. So, there is no way a commissioner or anybody can change the result because they will be arriving at the same time that the political parties would be having access to the information.”

IEC addresses the media as they launch the ROC:
