Elections 2019: Independent Civic Organisation of SA

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Party abbreviation: ICOSA

In the 2019 elections, ICOSA will be contesting nationally and provincially in Gauteng and Western Cape.

The party was founded in January 2006 by former Karoo District Municipality manager Truman Prince. The party is led by Jeffrey Donson.

Manifesto:

ICOSA founder, Prince, was expelled by the ANC in 2006. After a legal battle with the party, Prince was reinstated by the municipal council in June 2007, only to be fired in August by provincial vote.

ICOSA will be contesting general elections for the first time in 2019.

The party was in coalition with the DA in 2006 to take over the Kannaland Local Municipality after the DA’s short-lived coalition with the ANC collapsed. The DA/ICOSA coalition collapsed after two ANC councillors crossed floors, giving the NPP five of the nine seats. In the 2011 municipal election, ICOSA regained a plurality in the Kannaland municipality with three seats while the ANC and the DA won two each.
