Profile: Economic Freedom Fighters

Party abbreviation: EFF

In the 2019 Elections, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be contesting both the National and Provincial elections in all nine provinces.

The EFF was founded on 13 July 2013 by Julius Malema. The party is still led by Malema.

The EFF contested National and Provincial elections in 2014, as well as the 2016 Municipal elections.

The EFF is currently the third-largest political party in South Africa. It secured 1 169 259 votes and a 6.35% share of the vote in the 2014 general election.

The EFF won 25 seats in the National Assembly and 7 seats in the National Council of Provinces following the 2014 National elections. The party won a total of 28 seats in municipalities following the 2016 Municipal elections, with at least 1 seat in each province.

Malema is a former ANC Youth League president and was expelled from the ANC ruling party.
