Eight captive-bred lions killed in North West

North West police are investigating a case of illegal hunting following the killing of eight captive-bred lions on a farm in Swartruggens.

It is believed that the lions were poisoned before their paws and jaws were hacked off.

“We can confirm that a case of illegal hunting has been opened after eight lions were allegedly killed. We don’t have more information at this stage but we can confirm that the incident occurred at one of the farms in the vicinity of Swartruggens, although the case has been opened in Koster. At this stage, no one has been arrested and investigations into the matter continue,” says police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.
