EFF releases election candidate list

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has announced its list of 803 representatives to the national assembly with the party’s leader Julius Malema in the top spot.

Others in the top ten include former ANC Youth League national executive committee members Floyd Shivambu and Magdalene Moonsamy well as former political commentator Andile Mngxitama.

The party has also announced its premier candidates most of whom have a political history with the ANC. Advocate Dali Mpofu has been named as the party’s premier candidate for Gauteng.

The other members are: Mpho Ramakatsa; Leigh-Ann Mathys; Hlengiwe Hlophe; Godrich Gardee; Mbuyiseno Ndlozi Teboho Mokwele

Provincial premier candidates were also announced. Lawyer Dali Mpofu was named the EFF’s Gauteng premier candidate. All nine candidates were formerly members of the African National Congress.

Malema told reporters in Johannesburg that members of the Socialist Party of Azania (Sopa) and the Black Consciousness Party (BCP) would not stand independently.

“…their candidates shall be part of the EFF candidates’ list who hold dual membership…” Malema also says the composition of the list is not a subject for discussion.
“If there is anyone who is aggrieved by the list, the door is opened, they can go. We are not here to entertain position mongers, we are not here to entertain people who think that without them there will no EFF in parliament. This is the product of consultation by the central command team together with the provincial leadership, so the matter of the list is closed.”

Malema also acknowledged that a lack of racial interaction is the biggest problem the party is facing. Malema says the list has a gender balance. However, he says the party is still working on attracting as many white people as possible.
