EFF promises to do a skills audit of municipal staff if voted into power

Reading Time: 2 minutes

EFF leader Julius Malema says once the party is voted into power, they will do a skills audit of all employees. Malema says this is to ensure that only qualified officials are employed by municipalities.

He was addressing scores of EFF members at Inanda in Durban during the party’s rally ahead of the local government elections next Monday.

The EFF is confident of a strong showing in the eThekwini Metro. It occupies eight seats in the council currently.

Malema also addressed issues such as the high unemployment rate, which in eThekwini stood at nearly 37% between April and June this year.

“You must get a job according to your qualification. There’s position for those who have matric. There’s position for those who have degrees. When we take over in this municipality, we are going to do what we call a skills audit to ensure that you get the position accordingly. What are your qualifications?  Why are you earning a salary of a person with degrees (while you) don’t have a degree? get out!”

Malema has reiterated his call for a graduate allowance as income for unemployed graduates.

“We are making a call. And that call, we are going to formalise it in parliament. Everybody who has graduated at tertiary level must get a job. If you can’t give them a job, you must give them the graduate allowance. Because they can’t go to school for free. If we can’t pay people for going to school, no one is going to go to school. This unemployment amongst graduates is going to discourage our children from going to school. We want you to go to school, graduate, (and) get a job. If there is no job they must pay you for not giving you a job.”

He also weighed in on Eskom’s current load shedding, saying it was just a smokescreen for rigging the elections.

“There’s something or warning I want to give you; Eskom says there’s going to be load shedding. They’re lying because they’re preparing to steal the elections. In every country where they stole election, for example Uganda, they switch off. So, the voters will go during the day. When it’s time to count they are going to switch off the lights and they’re swapping the boxes.

The EFF is expected to end its campaign with a last mass rally dubbed ‘Tshela Thupha‘, which means ‘Whip them’, at Katlehong in Ekurhuleni this Friday.
