Political analyst and former editor of the Sowetan newspaper, John Dludlu, says for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to fare well in the elections, it needs to prove to the public that they are ready to govern.

Dludlu says they need to position themselves as a party that is ready to lead, instead of just being the opposition.

As the party gets ready to launch its election manifesto later on Saturday in Soshanguve, outside Pretoria, Dludlu says the EFF’s manifesto outlines the problems in the country very well, but gives no real plan of action to rectify them.

The party leadership says the document is designed for the people by the people, following engagements with various sectors of the community.

Dludlu adds that the EFF cannot deny the gains made in the country’s history of democracy.

“What I find very disingenuous though is that they have sought to distance themselves from the last 25-years, you can’t all of a sudden deny that there has been progress. Now they have a track record of doing things, being in government they have enabled a few coalitions in Nelson Mandela Bay, City of Tshwane in the City of Johannesburg so the chances of them lie in them positioning themselves as a party that can govern instead of a party that opposes and disrupts things all the time. The manifesto articulates the problems very well but you can’t just overnight insource all the services that are provided by role players in the economy into government.”
