EFF N West requests a motion of no confidence in Mahumapelo

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in North West has written to the Speaker of the provincial legislature, Suzan Dantjie, requesting a debate on the motion of no confidence in embattled Premier Supra Mahumapelo to be held at the next available sitting.

The EFF requested postponement of the same motion last month, citing fear for some African National Congress (ANC) Member of Provincial Legislatures who would like to vote for its motion.

The ANC has 33 seats in the provincial legislature, while the EFF, Democratic Alliance (DA) and Freedom Front Plus have 10 seats between them.

The EFF had initially announced it was headed to the courts to have the motion conducted in secret, but its leader Julius Malema instructed the provincial structure on Wednesday to abandon the court route.

“We have no sympathy for Supra. I want the EFF to write a letter. We are not going to court, we want the motion of no confidence. Secret ballot or no secret ballot. We want to see whether these MPLs of the ANC mean it when they say they don’t want Supra. Why don’t they vote with the motion of the EFF?
