The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Tshwane region is calling on the Democratic Alliance (DA) led administration to reinstate with immediate effect the 600 workers whose contracts were inappropriately terminated in October 2020.

Scores of EFF members have joined the former workers in a protest march to the City of Tshwane’s headquarters in the Pretoria CBD. They’ve given the City seven working days to adhere to their demands.

The City’s Jordan Griffiths says they will respond later.

EFF’s Cedric Cele says the City is in contempt of the CCMA award that ordered the reinstatement of former general workers.

Cele says, “Over 600 employees’ contract was unlawful terminated in October 2020. Actually, that was a very painful experience because those workers cannot even claim UIF as the city failed to issue it on time. Up until today, the city doesn’t want to comply. Their living in a very painful situation. We were subjected to the bargaining council. The city was there but failed to defend themselves.”
