EFF hits back at Collen Maine

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says comments by ANC youth league president Collen Maine that likened EFF members to monkeys leave them cold.

Maine made the remarks at a rally in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria. The ANC has since reprimanded him. EFF spokesperson Mbuyseni Ndlozi says he is failed leader.

“Any conscious South African, anybody that claims to be a revolutionary would never borrow the tools of white racists to describe black South Africans. Maine is a house slave.

“He has adopted the language of the master. To refer to black South Africans as monkeys is to participate in a language of racists and that disqualifies him as a revolutionary.”

Meanwhile, North West police say no case has been opened relating an incident in which a group of alleged EFF members allegedly attempted to attack and set alight the house of the Maine.

The alleged attempted attack in Matsheng village outside Taung, is apparently linked to the comments Maine made when he referred to EFF members as monkeys, at a rally at the weekend.

Provincial police spokesperson, Leonard Hlathi says they are aware of the incident.

“We are aware of those allegations, however as the police we can only comment if there is a case opened. Currently there is no case opened and we are taking everything as allegations. Yes the police were there because it is our responsibility to make sure that there is peace but at the end of the day it is within the right of the involved parties to approach the police and lay charges if they so wish.”
