Reading Time: < 1 minute

Economic Freedom Fighters across the country are gathering at the Majwemasweu stadium in Brandfort ahead of the party’s memorial service for anti-apartheid struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

EFF leader Julius Malema is expected to give a keynote address as the country mourns the passing of the Mother of The Nation.

Free State Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Patricia Kopane is also attending the service.

Residents of Brandfort who are also members of the EFF want their leader to speak out about service deliver challenges faced by the town.

They say in order to truly honour Mama Winnie, there should be a transformation in the Majwemasweu area.

“In ward 2 we want our president to talk about water and electricity. There are no proper houses ad there are no toilets,” says one member.

Another member says they hope Madikizela-Mandela’s passing will hopefully prompt government to build tarred roads, while others are calling for government to build a museum in the small town to honour her memory.
