EFF boycotts joint sitting of National Assembly

Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have walked out of a joint sitting of the National Assembly in which the process of electing a new President of the country is underway.

Earlier, both the Democratic Alliance (DA) and EFF have called for the dissolution of Parliament and the holding of early elections.

The two parties say the Constitutional Court found both former President Jacob Zuma and the entire Parliament guilty of violating the Constitution.

The two parties did not field candidates to oppose the election of Cyril Ramaphosa as the President of the Republic.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane says the entire African National Congress (ANC) is the problem.

“We must do recognise that we don’t have (a) Jacob Zuma problem; we have an ANC problem. The ANC has been collective in defending Jacob Zuma. It’s the ANC that has captured the state. It’s the same ANC that in fact started to replace boards of state-owned companies.”

“Even those who will be elected after Jacob Zuma will be nothing, but substitutes in the same corruption game and competition. If Ramaphosa becomes president he is simply going to replace Zuma’s corruption.”
