The North West Education and Sport Development Department says it’s optimistic that learners of Madibogo Pan Village will be returning to school on Monday. This came after an urgent intervention meeting of the North West Provincial Government departments and other stakeholders with community leaders in the village.

The protest in the area has affected schooling for a period of over three months without learning and teaching due to the demands for a tarred road.

MEC for Education and Sports Development Sello Lehari says the Department has already drawn an intervention plan to be rolled out in order for learners to gain the lost teaching time.

Winter school, and Saturday classes are to commence as part of the recovery plan – and there will be consultative meetings with Teacher Union to persuade educators not to close for June Vacation.

Lehari says the protests have adversely affected G.S. Phoi Secondary school in their matric results in 2017 as they obtained 56.90%.

The school was one of the most under-performing schools in the province.
