History and description

Education City Stadium, also known as Qatar Foundation Stadium and nicknamed “Diamond of the Desert” is one of the playing venues of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Education City Soccer Stadium is located in Al Rayyan city.

Al Rayyan city is credited as Qatar’s Foundation for community development, science and education. The city is known for its several universities.

Education City Stadium was inaugurated in June 2020 at a virtual ceremony honouring frontline healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The stadium was the third site to be finished in readiness for the upcoming World Cup 2022.

Triangles used to create intricate, diamond-like geometric patterns that seem to change colour as the sun moves across the sky are visible on the facade of the “Diamond of the Desert.”

The stadium is the first venue for the Qatar 2022 event to earn a five-star grade for design and construction from the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS). For the benefit of spectators, players and officials, the stadium will feature cutting-edge cooling technology.

The stadium is set to host six group stage matches and other matches in the round of 16 and one quarter-final. The 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter finals are scheduled to take place on 9th December

The stadium will accommodate up to 40 000 soccer fans. However, after the World Cup the management of the soccer stadium will lower it to 25 000 seating arena.

The Doha Metro Green will be used by fans to get to the stadium . Education City Station is located just 500 metres from the stadium.
